Frequently Asked Questions

Find answers to common questions about our hospital bed hire services and delivery options.

Hospital beds are a great solution for anyone with restricted mobility and
who would like to stay in their own home. They provide more comfort for
anyone recovering from an operation or injury compared to a standard bed
and the bed can be adjusted to help sleep and aid recovery.

About Renting

Hospital beds can be very expensive to buy, especially when they may only
be needed for a short time. Renting a hospital bed is a cost-effective solution
to enjoy the benefits of high quality medical equipment in your home.

We will always do our best to meet your needs. Where possible we will arrange same or next
day delivery and the delivery charge remains the same, regardless of the schedule. If we are
given 2 or 3 days’ notice, we will nearly always be able to meet your requirements.

Talk to one of our friendly team either by calling us or completing the contact form.

The initial payment is taken by card. You can either make this payment over the telephone or
by clicking on a link we will send you with the rental agreement.
If you need the bed beyond the original rental term, we can set up recurring payments so that
the charge is taken automatically. If you would prefer not to have payments taken
automatically, we can arrange alternatives. Full rental terms can be found here.

1 week is the minimum chargeable period. If you need us to collect a bed sooner than that we
will do our best, but we normally require notice of 3 working days to arrange a collection.
Full rental terms can be found here.

You must give at least 3 working days’ notice ahead of the rental termination date. We will try to call you in the week leading to the end of your initial rental term to see if you need the bed beyond the original agreed period. This is a courtesy, the responsibility is still with you to tell us if the agreement is to end.

About the beds

We have a range of hospital/care/profiling beds which will suit almost everyone. All are manufactured to the highest standard, regularly serviced and meticulously cleaned and sanitised.
We have floor beds and bariatric beds, but our standard Bradshaw bed meets the needs of the vast majority of our customers. Our beds are fully electric profiling beds and come with a handy remote control.
See our range of beds here with full technical specification. You can also see a YouTube video demonstrating the Bradshaw bed in use on our homepage.

Most of our customers need a hospital bed to provide care and respite to a family member coming out of hospital. They also could be recovering from an
operation or injury and need the comfort of a hospital bed to support their recovery.

We hope so! The NHS does have facilities to make beds available to people for use in their homes. The way this is administered varies from region to region and trust to trust but if you can, it will save you money. If you just need a bed from us while you wait for your NHS bed to arrive then that suits us fine – it is part of the reason we wanted to offer a minimum rental period of just 7 days – the shortest on the market.

Yes! All houses are different and if you have specific challenges we would like
to know about this in advance, but the beds come apart and can be
reassembled inside if we need to get through tight spaces. We are yet to find
a property we couldn’t deliver to.

The bed specifications are here. The mattress is the same as a standard single,
but the overall bed is a little larger due to side and end panels.

About the mattresses

You can view our mattresses here

Risk is all about bed sores. All our mattresses are high risk, which means they
are specially designed to help spread pressure and keep the user cool to
prevent the development of bed sores. If you have had bed sores before, or
have reason to believe you are very susceptible to them, you may benefit
from an air mattress.

We rent an airflow mattress to customers who may have or who are at a higher risk of developing pressure/bed sores. The alternating pockets of air in the air mattress remove contact between the surface of the skin and the mattress, thus reducing the risk of developing a bed sore.

1. Are you or your loved one currently using an airflow mattress?
2. Do you or they have a history of bed sores?
3. Do you or they have severely limited movement? e.g., palliative care, where they are not getting up or moving position.
If the answer to any of the above is yes, an airflow mattress may be a good idea.
Your GP or care provider will also provide advice on whether you need a
standard high risk mattress or an airflow mattress.

Yes, our hospital mattresses are waterproof.

Yes, but not for hire and only sheets – you’ll be better off with your own
pillow and choice of blanket or duvet almost every time. You can purchase single, flat, white sheets from us for £10.

Our delivery

The more notice you give us, the easier it will be to schedule the delivery according to your needs. That said, we aim to deliver on the next working day when possible and will deliver on the same day if we can – there is no extra charge for this on top of the standard delivery fee.

We deliver to most postcodes in Yorkshire and have plans to expand our
reach so that we can help even more people.

HMRC offers an exemption to VAT to certain people if they have a chronic condition. Read more about it and fill in the exemption form here.
